About Mizani
Mizani Projects Consultants is a Nairobi construction consultancy. We manage construction projects, administer contracts, prepare and evaluate claims, and help parties resolve disputes.
Mizani was founded in 2026 by two registered quantity surveyors, QS. Huria Karugu and QS. Serah Mwende. Together they have more than 20 years of experience on commercial, residential, institutional, industrial, healthcare and hospitality projects in Kenya.
In their careers, they saw the same pattern on many projects. Delays and cost overruns lead to claims, and claims that are not managed well lead to disputes. Most clients must then hire separate firms for project management, for claims and for dispute resolution.
Mizani is the Swahili word for scales, or balance. It describes how we work: we balance time, cost and quality on a project, and we look for a fair balance between the parties when they disagree.

Qualified people, one firm for the whole project, and advice that the contract supports.
Registered professionals
Both partners are registered quantity surveyors with BORAQS and professional members of IQSK. Your project is in the hands of qualified people who answer to their professional bodies.
One firm, from start to settlement
We combine project management, contract management, claims and dispute resolution. You do not need to brief a new firm each time the project changes stage.
Experience on large projects
The partners have managed projects valued up to KES 4.4 billion, from inception to close-out, across many sectors.
Fair and independent
We act for developers and for contractors. Our advice is based on the contract and the facts, so it stands up in negotiation, mediation and arbitration.
Early action on problems
We track notices, variations and delays from day one. Most disputes are cheaper to avoid than to resolve.
Clear reporting
You get regular written reports on time, cost, quality and risk, in plain language.

Common questions
Can't find your answer? Send us a message.
What does a construction project manager do?
A construction project manager plans and controls the project for the client. This includes the programme, the procurement of consultants and contractors, site coordination, cost and quality control, risk management and regular reports.
Do you work for contractors or only for developers?
We work for both. We act for developers, contractors, subcontractors, financial institutions and homeowners. We do not act for two parties on the same matter.
When should we bring you into a project?
As early as possible. Advice before you sign the contract costs little and prevents many disputes. We can also join a project that is already running, or a dispute that has already started.
How do you charge?
Depending on the work, we charge a percentage of the project cost, a fixed fee or a monthly fee. We agree the fee in writing before we start.
Where do you work?
Our office is in Nairobi. We work on projects across Kenya, and we plan to work in East Africa.
